Obstetrical Calendar

First Visit: (At this visit, you see a nurse.)

  • Orientation to the Practice
  • Assign Due Date
  • Discuss Prenatal Vitamins
  • Answer Questions
  • Draw Prenatal labs
  • Ultrasound for Dating
  • Obtain History

About 12 weeks (or second visit): (At this visit, you see a Doctor.)

  • Discuss Any High Risk Factors
  • Check Weight, Blood Pressure
  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones
  • Perform Physical Exam – PAP smear, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea tests

About 16 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP
  • Optional AFP Test
  • Optional Gender Ultrasound ($60)

About 20 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP
  • Anatomy Ultrasound – May purchase a flash drive for $5 (for still photos)
  • Consider scheduling Prenatal Classes

About 24 week:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP

About 28 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP
  • Order One-hour Glucose Test
  • A Rhogam Shot is Given to Patients Who Have Rh-Negative Blood Type
  • Pamphlet on Kick Count
  • Discuss Circumcision
  • Breast Feeding
  • Discuss Prenatal Classes
  • Discuss Pediatrician
  • Review S/S Preterm Labor
  • Discomforts of Labor

About 30 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP

About 32-36 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP

About 36 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP
  • Discuss Labor and Delivery
  • Pack Your Bag
  • Group B Strep Culture done
  • Lab work and Tdap vaccine given (recommended)

About 38 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP
  • Cervical Examination

About 40 weeks:

  • Listen for Fetal Heart Tones and Check Uterine Size
  • Check Weight, BP
  • Cervical Examination
  • Discuss Management Plan for Delivery on an Individual Basis
  • Make plans for delivery
